Inside the Creative World of Carlota Fowler Lab: A Floral Design Journey with Rosaprima's Finest Varieties
At Rosaprima, we believe in amazing stories — and few stories are as inspiring as that of Paola Mendoza and Rolando Torres, the visionary duo behind Carlota Fowler Lab. Renowned for their transformative floral installations and dedication to teaching, Paola and Rolando recently created stunning designs using Rosaprima's exclusive RP Moab rose and our exquisite ranunculus varieties, including Elegance Salmone and Cloni Success Favola. We sat down with them to learn more about their creative process, what draws them to Rosaprima flowers, and how they bring floral dreams to life.
Every floral designer has a moment when you fall in love with flowers. Do you remember yours? What drew you into this world?

We started in 2016. I'm a graphic designer, and my husband and partner, Rolando, was working in politics. I didn't enjoy working in an office and wanted to do something different. A voice inside me said "flowers," and I like to think it was my grandmother Carlota's voice — she passed away many years ago, but since I was a child, her house was always filled with flowers because she loved them so much. One day in 2016, I told Rolando that we needed to start creating with flowers, and since then, here we are. It has been a long journey filled with countless moments, but it's been hard work marked by consistency, perseverance, and faith.
What was the primary purpose of the workshop?

We began teaching in 2018 in Mexico. At that time, there were very few options for florists to take professional classes, so we decided to create experiences for everyone who wanted to learn and step into this world of flowers. It has been incredible — we have now taught more than 3,000 people across Mexico, the United States, Guatemala, and Portugal.
By 2020, just before the pandemic, we started offering classes in the United States because many people who didn't speak English couldn't find floral design classes in Spanish. Many who couldn't travel to Mexico asked us to bring our workshops closer to them, so we came and began teaching people from the Latin American community. It has been an honor for us to teach in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Houston. Sharing knowledge allows us to give back and keep alive all the good things life has given us.
Why do you pick RP Moab, Super Sun, Elegance Salmone, and Cloni Success Favola? What story or emotion did you want the installation to capture?

We aimed to create a spring-summer installation inspired by the Amalfi Coast, so we selected warm colors and added touches of pink to evoke a romantic atmosphere. Italy is renowned for its romantic, sunny, and warm ambiance, and this color palette perfectly captures that feeling for us.
You had the chance to work with Rosaprima's exclusive RP Moab, along with our ranunculus varieties like Salmone and Favola. What stood out to you about these varieties in terms of color, texture, or design versatility?

Everything! First, we were so impressed with the exceptional quality of every stem we used. The color is striking and uncommon, and the size and natural movement in every ranunculus are incredible — they're perfect for creating garden-style designs.
As floral designers, your standards are high — what makes you choose Rosaprima when creating floral designs for such meaningful occasions like weddings?

Quality, excellence, and the amazing range of colors in every stem they offer us — they let our imagination run wild. Rosaprima is incredible because they always have extraordinary varieties of flowers and colors that help us bring any vision to life.
