Located on the Equatorial line, in the northeast part of South America, Ecuador borders with Colombia in the north, and Peru in the south. The presence of the Andes mountain range, the amazon basin, volcanic soils and the Pacific ocean generate unique microclimates which make it a country ideal for agriculture and fishing. With about 100 thousand square miles, Ecuador is only slightly larger than Great Britain, and no bigger than the state of Nevada. It has been ranked as one of the most biodiverse countries on earth, with dramatic landscapes and mild weather all year round. Its population of about 13 million is culturally and ethnically diverse.
